Kochs, Corps, and Monsanto Trade Group Have Bankrolled Group Attacking Dr. Oz

One of the doctors who has called for TV's Dr. Oz--a prominent proponent of GMO labeling--to be fired from Columbia University is a convicted felon who works for the American Council on Science and Health. An updated review of ACSH's funding reveals it is funded by a trade group of food corporations (including Monsanto) that heavily opposes GMO labeling.

Heartland Institute Reluctantly Stands by Denial of Cigarette Smoking Risks

Before the Heartland Institute became famous for its leading role in climate change denial, the group spent many years working to defend the tobacco industry. Just as the group is now known for its over the top attacks on climate scientists, Heartland once played a large role in criticizing public health experts and others calling attention to the dangers of cigarette smoking.

CMD Calls for Nebraska Ethics Investigation over ALEC Keystone “Academy” Junket

Nebraska State Senator Jim SmithThe Center for Media and Democracy filed a complaint yesterday with the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission alleging that Nebraska Senator Jim Smith, a major proponent of the Keystone XL pipeline, failed to disclose significant travel expenses paid for by the Government of Alberta, Canada during Smith's participation in an "Oil Sands Academy" organized by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). The trip was sponsored by the operator of the Keystone XL pipeline, TransCanada, which may raise additional concerns under the ethics and lobbying code.
