Oh, Those Rambunctious First Daughters

Of the many issues facing the White House communications staff, PR Week asked a few experts to sound off on how the media's treatment of President Bush's daughters should be handled. Here's what they had to say:
  • "The White House should show the twins' positive attributes and interests, perhaps by having them interact with their parents. For example, where were the twins when the president was building the Habitat for Humanity house near the Crawford ranch?"
  • "The Bush twins would ... be well-served to find a contemporary and non-partisan charity or two to publicly rally support for, like AIDS awareness programs or an urban youth program."
  • "The White House is doing as good a job as can be expected. The real 'problem' lies with the Bush daughters, and not the White House communications team. While nobody begrudges Barbara and Jenna their good times, they have been arrested and continue to party in a very public manner -- one that's inconsistent with their father's political position, yet ironically consistent with his own past -- and thus will continue to remain a story."
