I have been wondering where and how this bill came about? Who consulted on it and who wrote it? It seems tailor made to serve an ideological agenda and vested interests.
But on the other hand Chevy doesn't advertise it's product as something to walk in front of. Cigarettes are after all the only legal product that if used as directed will kill you..But they don't advertise themselves as slow suicide and they should be forced to! It should say on a cigarette label...this product will addict and kill you in a slow and ugly way...period.
I live in Wisconsin, have been to Madison, am an officer in my county Dem party, and I'm on the OFA email list......OFA is spreading INFORMATION about the rallies in Wisconsin, not organizing them. If you choose to sign up they send you updates, that's all.
The Dem party hasn't even been that active because it was such an immediate groundswell of grassroots action no one could keep up, including the unions who are more "responding" to the people instead of the other way around!
I've been around a long time and believe me this is not fake civic action going on. I went there with a friend who called and said he just wanted to go show support. On our own. Some catch a free bus to avoid parking problems but not because they are part of the groups paying for the buses.
The organized groups show up marching together .all the rest of the people are individuals acting as individuals for the same cause.
All the major news outlets have advertisers. So, their profits are directly tied to the interests of their advertisers. Pressure is exercised in other ways too, but substantial work covers those topics--e.g. chapter one of Manufacturing Consent and discussion of the five filters.
Anyway, since all the major media outlets hold profit to be their top priority--actually the corporate charter carries a federal mandate to do so--objective news reporting declines. If there does happen to be a flicker of news that does not support the interest of advertisers or stock-holders flip to the back of the papers. Or in this case, a script is gathering comments or posts, that carry flagged words and phrases, only to send them to the propaganda editor for review and summary deletion as necessary.
The manufacturers have 2 choices: keep the price the same and sell a smaller amount per package, or sell the same size package and charge more for it. Their costs are going up. In order to make money (which is what businesses exist to do) they must pass on their costs. The only real way for you to save money on peanut butter is to grow your own peanuts and make your own peanut butter. Or use less peanut butter. Or just quit buying peanut butter. But whatever you substitute for peanut butter is increasing in cost as well.
