Afghan Women Speak

The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) is a political/social organization of Afghan women struggling for peace, freedom, democracy and women's rights in fundamentalism-blighted Afghanistan. According to their website, "If you are freedom-loving and anti-fundamentalist, you are with RAWA." Their site features information about the oppression of Afghan women and a statement deploring the September 11 attacks. "But unfortunately we must say that it was the government of the United States who supported Pakistani dictator Gen. Zia-ul Haq in creating thousands of religious schools from which the germs of Taliban emerged," the statement says. "Our constant claim that fundamentalist terrorists would devour their creators is proved once more."
