I listened to the story on NPR and got the impression this was a real great gotcha on the Gov. Now after I heard the phone call script I see that this is just a political scam by the people who are more concerned about their personal sacrifice then the well being of the state. In these economic times all must feel a bit of loss. Fact is the remark Gov Walker made about the city with only the gov workers employed made perfect sense as a reason to lay off the public employees. Rehire the ones who are willing to work and can that overbearing retirement system. His quote about President Ragan was great! This was a great article, I now have full support for Walker and David Koch. The Gov's remarks to Koch were exactly what I would expect him to respond to a large donor who you certainly would not want to alienate. He was right on tract. Somebody has to stand up to the libs who care less about the future. In all reality Ian Murphy should be jailed for his deceit.
I think you are intelligent enough to recognize that Fox intentionally slipped in that scene of an unruly shoving match (who knows the true circumstances of that scene, were they even labor union supporters?). Worse to me is the way Bill O'Reilly shapes the viewpoint & tries to make the entire event look like it isn't grass roots in nature. Also, the reporter twice says something like "they all think alike", again in attempt to shape the viewer's opinion. I would like to see a more objective report on what is going on there, but I do not trust Fox to ever do that. Do you?
I believe there is something about yelling "fire" in a crowded theater (i.e. there are certain restrictions to free speech, although the latest Supreme Court ruling allowing the Westbrook Baptist Church (?) to spew their hate makes you wonder. I think the authorities just wanted to make sure things didn't get out of control. If they did, then they and Walker would be blamed for that. My take is that most people don't understand or ignore the bottom line facts about what is going on before they start protesting. They just seem to get caught up in the mob mentality. Once the state goes broke and can't pay the teachers and other union employees, then they will start screaming about that. I guess it depend on whose ox is being gored.
Final thought: Perhaps the out-of-state protestors are still upset that the Packers whipped their team and won the Super Bowl.:)
FL,
Clearly you don't read newspapers or watch tv. The union members have AGREED to the cuts. What we are trying to protect are people's rights! You want to take away people's rights to sit down and talk to their employers? That is UNAMERICAN!
You are the whiner who needs to read a paper and get a clue as to what we are fighting to protect: RIGHTS!
If this clip involved O'Reilly and Tobin discussing union protests across the country, or how protests in Madison have inspired other rallies in other cities, maybe the footage from California could be justified.
But not once does this piece mention protests in other states. If you listen to this clip, all they are discussing here are protests in Madison. How they are organized, who is attending, etc. The protests had been going on for two weeks at the time this piece was filmed and Fox had been in Madison for most of that time. They were not lacking for footage of the Wisconsin protests.

There is no justification for this.
