What can the Netroots [3] do to end the war in Iraq? The Center for Media and Democracy [4] is hosting a "Coffee with the Troops" [5] during the Yearly Kos [6] convention this Sunday in Chicago, August 5, 9:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place [7], Ball Room C/D second level.
The event features national leaders of Iraq Veterans Against the War [8] and examines where online activists now stand on Iraq as the war drags on and campaigning for 2008 intensifies. Will the Netroots [3] follow the lead of Democratic Party [9] officials, candidates and strategists? Or, will online activists and bloggers help unite and mobilize a stronger, independent movement against the war?
John Stauber [10] and Sheldon Rampton [11] will moderate a discussion of how online activists can better support our troops' own resistance to the war in Iraq [12]. Speaking will be Garett Reppenhagen [13], Aaron Hughes [14] and other soldiers who are the leadership of Iraq Veterans Against the War [8].
Rampton and Stauber are co-authors of two current book on the Iraq war, The Best War Ever [15] and Weapons of Mass Deception [16]. Coffee with the Troops [5] is one of four Yearly Kos events [17] with CMD staff.
