The Traditional Values Coalition [3], which bills itself as a Christian advocacy group, has received money behind the scenes from the pharmaceutical industry to campaign against legislation that would enable U.S. citizens to import low-cost prescription drugs from countries like Canada. The drug industry opposes the law because it would undercut the high prices they charge in the U.S. TVC claims (using an analysis supplied by the drug industry [4]) that the law would enable people to obtain RU-486, the so-called "abortion pill" - an analysis that is rejected even by most people in the anti-abortion movement. Other conservatives accuse TVC of accepting "payoffs to tell lies [5]" and waging a "sleazy campaign against pro-life congressmen [6]."
