The Center for Media and Democracy [3] is pleased to welcome two new additions to our team fighting against spin and for the truth this summer, Janos Marton and Monica Chang.

Janos graduated magna cum laude from Fordham Law School last year and returned this month from Liberia, where he served in the Office of General Counsel for the Ministry of Health. He previously worked for Norman Siegel, the former Executive Director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, on civil rights issues, and he also worked for the law firm of Hogan & Hartson [4], for the criminal defense clinic, for disaster relief in Mississippi in the wake of Hurricane Katrina [5], and on get-out-the-vote efforts for America Coming Together [6]. Janos earned his Bachelor of Arts in history from Dartmouth College, where he was twice elected president of the student body. This distinguished scholar sought out CMD to aid in our efforts to respond to the Supreme Court [7]'s decision in the Citizens United [8] case, which expanded corporate "rights."

Monica Chang also begins her summer legal fellowship with CMD this week. She is a second-year law student at Columbia Law School. Monica previously worked for the Washington Democratic Central Committee and also for the law firm of Peterson, Russell & Kelly. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington, majoring in both English and Philosophy while consistently making the Dean's List for her academic accomplishments. She is especially interested in environmental law and policy and is a competitive piano player in her spare time.

Janos and Monica join CMD's 2010 team, which includes our Real Economy Project [9]/BanksterUSA [10] Director Mary Bottari [11]; our newly promoted Managing Editor of PRWatch.org and SourceWatch [12], Anne Landman [13]; our IT Director Tricia Barden [14]; our Outreach Director, Sari Williams [15]; our Press Assistant, Nikolina Lazic [16]; our administrative assistant, Page Metcalf [17] (a senior at the University who will be working in Poland for part of the summer); and four students who have been assisting us, Megha Desai, who recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Law and will be continuing on with us this summer, and Brendan Fisher, who is a 3L at the University of Wisconsin, who will be rejoining us at the end of the summer; Rebecca Sandler, who will be entering Marquette Law School this fall; and Steve Horn, who is a senior at the UW. Wendell Potter [18], CMD's Senior Fellow on Health Care, took some time earlier this year to write and begin his term with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and he will soon return to writing pieces for CMD on the battle over implementation of the health insurance reform legislation. Our financial oversight project also has had the benefit of some very fine consultants.
