"It is vitally important, however, that a genuinely independent anti-war movement organize itself with the ability to speak on its own behalf." Here here. This is the conclusion that everyone who has ever marched in an anti-war protest or taken any interest in stopping the war in Iraq must come to if they want to see peace in our lifetimes. Personally, I'm really looking forward to UFPJ's national assembly June 22-24, though small, expensive conventions aren't the ultimate solution. In order to really build the movement, we need some broad, open, democratic forums for people to come together and feel like they have a voice in standing up to the American Empire, such as the "Mobes" of the late 60s and early 70s. Way to be the David to pelt the MoveOn goliath with reality. I also highly reccommend people read Cindy Sheehan's resignation letter if they haven't already. This very powerful cry of desparation is hands down the most important analysis of the current state of the anti-war movement and the role of the Democrats.
