While speculation continues as to whether Rep. Anthony Weiner [1] will rekindle his New York City mayoral campaign in 2009, for now he is focused on retaining his seat in Congress. In an e-mail to Congresspedia today, an aide confirmed Congressman Weiner "is petitioning to run for re-election to Congress." The Democrat has represented New York's [2] 21st district since 1998.
Thus far, his only competitor is Republican Joseph Schmidt [3], a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves.
