Lisa,
I appreciate your vision for stopping spin and propaganda but I have a problem with how that plays out in your organization. Do you ever "watchdog" NBC, ABC or CBS? It seems most of your issues are with Fox. Which doesn't seem very balanced to me. "Because we are a fearless watchdog on PR spin and propaganda." It seems you may be a watchdog for anything on the right. Do you really not think there is spin on the left? I'd love a list of some areas of spin and propaganda from those other networks. Forgive me if I'm wrong in my perception of your organizations integrity.

Dear TDJ:
Thank you for your note! I really appreciate it and consider myself a concerned American, too.

Of course, you are correct--there's definitely spin on the left as well as on the right and among the moderates. Among other recent critiques, we have called out propaganda and conflicts of interest by Jonathan Gruber, sharply critiqued Senator Max Baucus, and we just did a parody of Senator Chris Dodd to try to pre-empt spin over bank reform at the influence of the industry.

But, we have been hitting FOX news and the hard-right quite a bit. I suppose they've been an easy target for spotlighting spin. And, it's fair to say that I'm worried about how effective and well-funded their spin machine is; it seems far more effective than spin on the left. At the same time, no party is spin-free; that's for certain!

Still, I hear your concern, and I appreciate that you took the time to write in about it. If you'd like to discuss this more, you can give me a call at 608-260-9713 or e-mail me at lisa AT prwatch.org.

Also, we've been discussing starting a new feature at PRWatch to enlist readers and spin-watchers like you in reporting the spin you see that we might be missing and then we'll include these tips on the website and feature the most egregious--from the left, right, or middle--in the Weekly Spin (with attribution or anonymously, if the tipster prefers). So, your note is just the impetus we need to take the next steps on this idea. While we're setting up this process, if you have any spin you'd like to report just let me know!

I hope you find this response useful! Lisa
